A Crane Regional Defense Group membership is a sound investment in the growth of your business and the success of this region. Its members are the lifeblood of the organization and are as diverse as the region it supports, from large-scale businesses to small, minority-owned firms in nearly every business sector. Its small business members–companies with less than 200 employees in the region make up the most significant portion of the membership.

Spark Downtown

Spark Downtown aims to ignite the revitalization of the downtowns in the Radius region, providing support to restore retail businesses and residential growth in community cores. Participating communities in Spark Downtown include The Town of Orleans, the Town of Odon, the Town of Paoli, the City of Washington, the City of Salem, the City of Loogootee, the City of Bedford, and the City of Jasper.

In early 2023, Radius Indiana introduced the Spark Downtown Facade Program. Radius secured funding from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for businesses in participating Spark Downtown communities to help them make improvements to almost any facade project that is visible from the road. The organization realized during the last year that its communities often lack the necessary funding to take on projects to help revitalize their downtown areas. Building owners in participating Spark Downtown communities are eligible to apply for 1% interest loans and must receive committee approval and be able to secure 50 percent matching funds.

Regional Impact Fund

Businesses in the Radius Indiana region benefit from the Regional Impact Fund (RIF), which supports area growth and expansion efforts. The RIF is a sub-organization of Radius Indiana with the sole purpose of making investments in public and private organizations that advance regional economic development strategies.

The RIF is a deal-closing fund that makes such investments in the form of grants, loans, equity investments, or other financial mechanisms deemed to be in the best interests of Southern Indiana. The RIF prioritizes projects that include job creation, site development, and expansion. To date, the RIF has distributed more than $3 million to area businesses.

Business Retention and Expansion Program

Radius and its local partners proactively reach out to business citizens of our southern Indiana counties to discover opportunities to assist. The BRE program can gather information, build strong relationships with the businesses that already have a footprint in the local community, and develop business assistance opportunities for existing businesses.

Local businesses receive outreach from a Radius-designated contact person who works with the local economic development office to identify solutions to needs that local companies identify through telephone and email communications.

Veteran Recruiting

Radius acts as a defense sector employment service, helping our Crane-related defense contractors find talent to fill employment needs. Radius maintains a library of veteran resumes and coordinates with the INVets veteran resume system to match veterans’ identified skills with the appropriate employment opportunities in the local companies.

Recruited veterans can also be eligible to participate in the Choose Southern Indiana talent attraction incentive program.
